Jbl bar studio 2.0 soundbar test

soundbar - Free 2-3 Day soundbar

It doesn’t trouble us much for basic TV watching – there is more quality to be had further up the food chain, but dialogue is far from boring – but that is no automatically a soundbar’s sole purpose any longer. The JBL Bar Studio soundbar is a fine budget upgrade on your TV speakers. Tested at £150. By What Hi-Fi? July 10, 2018. If your idea of a soundbar is simply an upgrade on your TV speakers, the JBL Bar Studio represents a fine budget option. Solid and punchy sound. Good range of features. Hardens slightly at higher volumes At around 60cm in length and just under 6cm in height, it will slot under most suitably sized TVs without appearing undernourished, and has been crafted to JBL’s usual high standards of quality and aesthetic modernity. Up To 70% Off! Jbl Sound Bars. Must See Prices

We’re fans of a neutral balance, so wouldn’t have it all the way up - but there is undeniably greater momentum to the sound than through the speakers on our TV.

Aesthetically, it's very clearly a baby brother of the Bar 5.1, featuring the same curved-edge perforated grille chassis and circular top-panel controls. It measures 61cm wide, making it a good fit for screens as small as 28in up to around 55in, and it's not particularly deep or tall, either. You should have no trouble finding space for it. Jbl Sound Bars

Product review: JBL Bar Studio 2.0 TV soundbar. April 18, 2018; New products; JBL delivers a sleek and simple solution to improve stock TV sound with the Bar Studio.. It's no big secret that the quality of TV sound is becoming somewhat lacklustre, and unfortunately as long as manufacturers are attempting to make thinner and thinner TV sets the sound is only going to get worse This more often happens at the budget end of the market, where there appears to be a threshold below which it is extremely difficult to design and produce a capable all-rounder.There's good separation too; the film's orchestral score, Foley and dialogue are cleanly delivered, rather than as a mush. Some treble details can exhibit a raspy edge at high volumes, though.

JBL Bar Studio review What Hi-Fi

So what’s not to like? Well, if you just want to improve your TV sound - and not at high volumes - then there’s not all that much by way of competition at this price. High volumes are one caveat of the Bar Studio, though: the treble isn’t overtly coarse, but it does harden the more we turn it up, especially when the sound becomes busy.We say: Connectivity is solid on this budget 'bar, as is overall sonic performance. Virtual surround is worth playing with too

It means the JBL Bar Studio is, effectively, among the market leaders and also a champion in more senses than it's not. For starters, there is certainly little to quibble about when it comes to its build or on-board features.Bass is one of the things we first notice about the Studio when we connect it to our TV. Not only that there’s quite a lot of it, but also that it’s punchy and relatively rich too.

  4. g from a much larger bar we have nearby, which is a nice compliment for the JBL. Some smaller units tend to sound quite restricted due to their size, but the JBL offers a very spacious sound with an incredible sound stage and the dual subwoofer built inside offers plenty of low end without shaking the house to pieces.
  5. Even sticking to the Bar Studio's Standard EQ, it's straight-up 2.0 presentation is pretty impressive. An expected lack of scale (and no matter which preset you opt for, this budget offering is limited in this regard) is countered by a pleasing heft to its output and well-projected dialogue.
  6. The JBL Bar Studio includes Bluetooth connectivity so that you can stream your favorite music to the speaker, wirelessly. It is easy to set up with just one single HDMI cable to connect between your TV and the soundbar. You can control the JBL Bar Studio with your existing TV remote control. 7. That richness is perhaps not matched entirely through the midrange, but it glides above the low-end action, showing off a more-than respectable amount of detail.

JBL Surround Sound, an in-house technology designed to replicate the wrap-around sound of a 5.1 system, is further proof this soundbar is aiming to overcome the limitations imposed on it by its size. The JBL Link Bar is a pretty straightforward 2.0 soundbar that offers a decent sound quality with stereo content. It lacks quite a bit of sub-bass as it doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer and doesn't perform well with surrounds or Atmos content either. On the upside, its sound profile is well-balanced and the bar can get pretty loud © Future Publishing Limited Quay House, The Ambury, Bath BA1 1UA. All rights reserved. Only a vertical line of LED status lights on the bar's left edge denotes which you are currently using – this same row also rises and falls with volume/bass changes.

It’s no big secret that the quality of TV sound is becoming somewhat lacklustre, and unfortunately as long as manufacturers are attempting to make thinner and thinner TV sets the sound is only going to get worse. With the exception of some very high end sets that have new and exciting ways to push sound in to your room (some manufactures removing the speakers altogether), a soundbar is likely the best compromise soundbar. Buy your soundbar now. prices & deals subject to change Alternatively, JBL's Movie preset is less concerned with width, instead favouring a more forceful, full-on presentation by bumping up the levels of atmospheric FX. There's also a surround mode, which kicks into life with a curious (and rather loud) bleepy sound effect. I'm normally wary of faux surround, especially from a two-channel device, but found this was able to noticeably expand the soundstage – skilfully casting a background police siren wide-left at one moment in The Dark Tower (Ultra HD Blu-ray) – without making a phasey, echoey mess. There are times when the What Hi-Fi? rating system – reliable though it is – doesn’t quite tell the whole story.

The entry-level soundbar delivers an impressive performance from a single box and an agreeable price point. From the same range as JBL's multichannel-capable Bar 5.1, only less ambitious, comes the Bar Studio.A subwoofer-free, 2.0-channel design aimed at mid-size flatscreen owners, it arrives in the UK with a £150 ticket, meaning it joins an already crowded market of budget 'bars A diminutive, slender remote is supplied that gives all functions equal-sized buttons. It does at least highlight the volume and bass level adjustment keys with a glossier finish, but is still the kind of zapper you need to peer at before using. That might be more of a concern if you’re planning also to use your soundbar as a wireless speaker, which is where our other concerns arise. Musically, the Studio is not particularly great at timing, and lacks the dynamic expression of any of JBL’s much-loved Bluetooth speakers. It features an array of different connections to cover pretty much every TV on the planet. There’s HDMI ARC which is very popular nowadays as this feature will give users one remote control to control the soundbar, meaning you don’t have to faff around using two different remotes to control your TV. There’s also a dedicated digital optical input, which deals with sound only and is a more popular choice for soundbar users. And if all else fails, there’s even a trust 3.5mm headphone, so every base is covered!

A dream/vision sequence in Chapter 3 of The Dark Tower, where Idris Elba and Dennis Haysbert turn and twist in a mist-shrouded forest, teases the playful sound design of its Atmos/TrueHD origins. A soundbar is a style of speaker that provides a high-quality sound in an enclosed area. Featuring a wide construction and the ability to be moved around easily, a soundbar is a perfect addition to any modern-day home. With the latest technology, a streamlined appearance, Bluetooth connectivity and affordable prices, our soundbar range is the ideal choice for you. This isn’t a huge ploy created by TV manufacturers to sell you more stuff, it’s just a compromise that has to be made if consumers want the thinnest TVs possible. Speakers need room to move, and in modern TVs room is at a premium. While most on-board TV speakers will do the job, if you’re after something a little more, a soundbar will sound 100% better. The Studio’s size obviously restricts the scale of its sound, with drivers kept to two tweeters and single woofer - but two reflex ports help reinforce its low-end output.High-definition TV is great - but what good is it if its sound doesn’t match the quality of its video? Fortunately, JBL soundbars offer cinema-quality audio in high style.

  2. The Bar Studio's left and right channels each get a 2in woofer and 1.5in tweeter, with a claimed 30W of amp power feeding the array. Frequency response is rated down to 60Hz.
  3. The JBL Bar Studio includes Bluetooth connectivity so that you can stream your favorite music to the speaker, wirelessly. It is easy to set up with just one single HDMI cable to connect between your TV and the soundbar. You can control the JBL Bar Studio with your existing TV remote control
  4. If you’re looking for a sleek, well-built great sounding alternative to stock TV sound, then the JBL Bar Studio should certainly be on your shopping list. Why not pop into any one of our Richer Sounds locations for a full demonstration and you can be your own judge!
  5. Across the top you’ll find the basic controls for power, volume and source selection, with HDMI (ARC) and optical sockets to the rear. Bluetooth is also on board, potentially negating the need for a separate living room sound system.
  6. With The Dark Tower, the various inflections and accents of the cast are easy to discern, and the soundtrack's frequent use of lower frequencies (either for earthquake rumbles or moments of drama) have a genuine dynamic impact.
  7. That there's no subwoofer isn't a major drag. Certainly it means an absence of genuine LFE, but on other hand it lets this single-enclosure system show a good balance and cohesion between bass and mids. And it's one less box to think about.

Product review: JBL Bar Studio 2

  1. To switch on that sound mode you’ll need the included credit-card remote. The Studio, as with most modern soundbars, is designed to work with your regular TV remote, but the JBL clicker is worth having around for easy source-switching and controlling bass levels.
  2. Please note: 03 numbers are NOT premium rate numbers 03 numbers connect you directly to the store or department you call, and are charged at the same rate as you are charged for numbers starting in 01 and 02. 03 numbers are included in all bundle rates for mobile phones and landlines.
  3. If you want it all – infallible performance whether for TV, film or music – there seems to be a starting price. And it's more than this.
  4. But while £150 might be too cheap for a true all-rounder, the JBL Bar Studio is proof that there are some fine performers to be had. For a confident, full-bodied upgrade to your telly’s speakers, you can’t go far wrong.

Its scale still isn’t enough to fill much more than a small to medium-sized living room, but the Studio’s performance will certainly be an upgrade on most people’s televisions. JBL BAR STUDIO Review - The entry-level Studio soundbar delivers an impressive performance from a single box and an agreeable price point, reckons Mark Craven FROM.
